BOOM! POW! WOW! Today we had an awesome visitor in our classroom! Mark Braun is an artist who has illustrated advertisements, magazines, and coolest of all, comic books! Mark taught us about the process of making an illustration from a comic book. We learned that creating an illustration is a team process. Years ago, one artist would complete the pencil drawing, then would pass it on to an artist who would complete the ink work, who would then finally pass it on to someone who would color the drawing. Mark told us that today technology plays an important roll in creating comics. Mark brought original drafts, pencil drawings, and other art from famous comic book illustrators. He showed us how artists hide family and friends in the illustrations (he was in one of the comics!) Finally, Mark taught us how to draw a face with using simple shapes. Mark was invited to our classroom to help one of our students with an independent project he is working on. We really appreciate Mark taking time out of his busy schedule to visit 4th grade.
