Blowing Bubbles around the Scientific Method

This week we learned about the scientific method, a set of steps that scientists follow when they conduct experiments. We learned that scientists start out with a problem, or a question they want answered. The next step is to form a hypothesis, or a guess. Scientists then test their hypothesis and collect data. Finally, they analyze their data and make a conclusion about what actually happened.

Our class wanted to find out which bubblegum's flavor lasted longer - Extra or Juicy Fruit. Yes, we know that chewing gum is against the rules but this was in the name of science! We first made a hypothesis. Then we chewed a piece of Extra gum, collecting data and rating the flavor after each minute for a total of 6 minutes. Then we did the same thing with the Juicy Fruit gum. Our conclusion was that Extra gum lasted longer than the Juicy Fruit gum. Science rules!
